The Embassy of Belgium in Washington DC is currently recruting for the following two positions:

Public Diplomacy, Press and Communications Officer

Building Manager

 

Public Diplomacy, Press and Communications Officer

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual whose job duties include managing the Embassy’s external communications through social media, the monthly newsletter and the planning/promotion of public diplomacy events. An ideal candidate has fluency in English plus at least one of Belgium’s official languages (especially French or Dutch).

The contract is for a full-time position starting November 2, 2020.

In coordination with the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy and Press Counselor:

Public Diplomacy

  • Organize public diplomacy events to enhance the awareness of Belgium in the US, including public diplomacy aspects of official visits
  • Coordinate speaking requests, external briefings and public inquiries
  • Coordinate/Edit the monthly newsletter “BE Bulletin”
  • Draft speeches/texts in English for the Embassy’s representatives in connection with public relations events
  • Suggest, organize and support cultural events, both in person and virtual
  • Create and maintain relationships with cultural partners in Washington DC
  • Attend the monthly EU Public Diplomacy Counselors meetings and contribute to the organization of EU events (such as EU Open House, EU Kids Festival)
  • Develop and maintain a database of contacts (culture, education, think tanks, civil society)

Communications - Social media - Press

  • Manage the Embassy’s social media accounts (Facth, ebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Medium)
  • Develop and maintain a database of press contacts
  • Assist with press outreach and media monitoring (EU/BE in the US press, WH/State Press Briefings…)
  • Attend the monthly EU Press Counselors meetings
  • Manage the Embassy’s website, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels

Required Qualifications

-       Undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. communications, public relations, international relations)

-       English native speaker preferred

-       Excellent communication, writing, editing and organizational skills

-       Must have a congenial personality, be able to work well under pressure and to attend Embassy events (some evenings and occasional weekends)

-       Proficiency in MS Office and social media platforms required; Knowledge of CMS, MailChimp or FlexMail preferred

-       Knowledge of French and/or Dutch preferred

-       Good knowledge of Belgium is a plus

-       Proof of legal residence and work permit in the USA

 VACANCY BUILDING MANAGER AT THE EMBASSY OF BELGIUM 

The Belgian Embassy in Washington D.C is recruiting a Building Manager for its properties. 

We are looking for a responsible individual who speaks thorough English and French or Dutch, with minimum three years’ experience in managing buildings and maintenance operations, and who’s able to communicate effectively, clearly, professionally, politely and persuasively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. 

You will be responsible for planning, coordinating and overseeing the maintenance, renovation, and upgrade of the existing buildings and you will ensure the day-to-day management of the safe operation and preventive maintenance of the properties of the Belgian government. 

You can work both independently and in team; take personal responsibility for productivity, quality and timeliness of work; respond well and in a reasonable, timely manner; challenge conventional practices and use creativity and information to lead, innovate, solve problems, implement ideas and contribute to the betterment of the buildings/organization. 

Administrative skills, as well as good computer knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office are required. 

The contract is for a full-time position starting immediately.
